Friday is the launch of my latest sweater design Vintage & Variety, and it is my last pattern release of 2022! I thought it would be fun to share the inspiration behind this design and also some peeks at my 2 versions! I wanted to show the versatility of the pattern and how ease and color combos can drastically change the vibe of your FO (finished object). My first sample is the original and it was inspired by the Magnolia Magazine cover from Summer 2022 (see below for photo). When Sarah from The Lamb & Kid released the Italy Palette over the summer I knew those colors would be perfect for my design! When my Big Birdie yarn arrived I cast on immediately! I wanted this version to be oversized and more casual so I knit mine with 10″ of positive ease. The colors lend themselves to pair nicely with denim or sweater skirts and boots for a more casual look. My other version is 3 colors, more fitted with no positive ease (I knit my bust size) and perfect for pairing with black high waisted wide leg trousers-a vibe perfect for date night, work, and everything in between! I love how this version looks tucked into my trousers and belted, but more to come on that later in the week! Vintage & Variety sweater pattern release is set for Friday December 9th at 9am EST and pattern will be available for purchase on Ravelry and Payhip.
Now for the yarn details! I knit both samples with Dimond Laine Big Birdie, which is a fluffy Suri Alpaca/Silk Aran weight yarn. I am absolutely obsessed with this yarn! I find it so incredibly inspiring and love the fabric it makes. Sarah is hitting the dye pots and will be offering 2 DTOs (Dyed To Order) featuring Big Birdie twice this upcoming week/weekend. On Friday December 9th at noon EST on The Lamb & Kid’s website Sarah will be offering a limited number of kits with all 11 Italy Palette colors featured in my Vintage & Variety. Each kit will contain 1 skein of Big Birdie in each of the 11 colors shown in my sample. (NOTE: I did use a 12th color in my sample but it was a Counting Sheep color and only featured as a “pop” near my sleeve cuff.) 1 skein of each is required no matter the size you are knitting, so there will only be 1 kit available. Please note if you have been wanting the Italy Palette on Big Birdie this will be your only chance to get it for a long time (possibly ever), so if you’ve had your heart set on these colors now is your chance! Depending on the size you knit you will have varying amounts of leftovers. Might I suggest a Wavy Gravy Wrap or Craggy Cowl???!! Both would be absolutely stunning in these colors! The second DTO will take place on Sunday December 11 at 8PM EST. This DTO will not feature any kits and will be a normal DTO where you purchase the colors and skeins you need of Big Birdie. The colors in Sunday’s DTO will not be the Italy Palette but a new selection of colors available on Big Birdie.
I’m really so excited about this design and I hope you love it as much as I do! I will be back on Friday for the pattern launch!
What do you think of my inspiration behind the design??!! Do you think I nailed it???
