Trug Shawl is here! Inspired by this gorgeous Trug basket my super talented brother made for my SiL! (The same brother that made my dining room table. If you remember following along on that journey.) Trug Shawl is an asymmetric triangular shawl knit in Dimond Laine’s newest base, Downy Fingering. Like the shallow basket it’s named after, this shawl features alternating bands of stockinette stitch and basket weave. The basket weave pattern is created with purl and knit stitches for a fun and engaging play with texture.
Trug Shawl pattern is available on Ravelry and Payhip.
Now, let me tell you all about Downy Fingering and why I love this base so much! Downy Fingering is like its counterpart Downy Worsted in composition (50% Alpaca, 34% Cashmere, 16% Elastane) and feel, but the fingering weight makes it perfectly light for a seasonally appropriate heft. I love that the added elastane will help my shawl keep its shape and wear better longer. This yarn was a dream to knit with as it is so soft in the hand. Interestingly enough you don’t feel the elastane’s stretch when you’re knitting with it, so it doesn’t effect your tension. It’s only after blocking does that bit of stretch shine through because your knits don’t become overly stretched. I loved knitting and designing with this yarn and can’t wait to use it again in the future! I knit my sample in color Sweater Weather, which is a really good camel. If you know me you know I’m a huge fan of camel and I’m always searching for the perfect camel hue. This one is it for me and in fact I really want a sweater in this color! If camel isn’t your jam The Lamb & Kid will be offering Trug Shawl kits and an individual skein DTO today and Sunday. They are releasing some brand new colors as well that I think would make stunning Trug Shawls-I’m looking at you Sweetbriar and Antique!
