Making Comfort Shawl

Making Comfort Shawl is the newest design from Jill Zielinski. I was lucky enough to test knit this beautiful shawl for Jill. I love knitting Jill’s patterns-I find them so rhythmic and fun to knit! In fact I have knit more of her designs than any other designer! I enjoyed knitting this because it was perfect Netflix knitting. Some days after a long day at work you just want to come home, pour yourself a glass of wine, put your feet up and knit while Netflixing, ya know?

I paired my Making Comfort Shawl with some of my favorites from my wardrobe. Keeping the outfit simple to let the shawl truly shine. This sweatshirt gray cashmere sweater is so incredibly soft and cozy. Its definitely one I recommend everyone have in their closet- plus it’s a bargain at $75! Truly you can’t even buy cashmere yarn to knit a sweater for $75! I’ve purchased this sweater for myself and my hubby and the softness and quality is unreal! I like the men’s fit for the perfect borrowed from him look, but it also comes in a women’s fit. It’s available in a rainbow of colors! I paired my gray cashmere sweater with my favorite hi-rise rigid denim. They are the perfect combination of mom jean and 90s with an updated fit. They’re slightly cropped so they’re great to pair with boots now or birks once the weather heats up. I also love the lighter wash of them-its the perfect light wash IMO.  I finished this simple look off with one of my favorite boots- my Blundstone’s! I love these boots because they’re waterproof, making them great for year round wear. They are so comfortable too! Of course no outfit is complete without a hat and my Six Hand Hat was perfect for the occasion!

I decided to knit my Making Comfort Shawl using some beloved yarn from stash. This yarn was purchased at my very first knitting retreat back in 2017. It holds such special memories because great friendships were forged that weekend. Its a beautiful blue that has a lot of depth to it as well as some shine thanks to the silk content in the yarn. Even though this yarn is sport weight, its composition allows for you to knit it at various gauges.  I had no problem achieving the pattern gauge. Based off of my personal preference for how I like to wear my shawls and the fact that I’m tall, I did have to make some pattern modifications to make the shawl larger.

Pattern Modifications

Follow pattern instructions and complete Lace Section #3 including Set-up Rows 1 & 2 from the previous Lace Sections. After completing this you will then knit another Garter Section (#4) and another Lace Section (#4). After knitting Lace Section #4 knit Set-up Row 1 (RS) just like the previous lace sections but do not knit Set-up 2! Instead with the WS facing you will beginning the Ribbed Edge. Make sure when you begin this section that your K3, P3 are aligning with Lace Section stitches -you will have to adjust your first couple stitches so the pattern aligns.  I knit the ribbed edge for 16 rows and then BO in pattern. (My final stitch count was 387 stitches but *please note* that due to an error in the testing pattern my stitch count was off. So your stitch count will be slightly different.) My final dimensions were 72″ wingspan and 30″ deep.

is located in the town I live in. There are many gorges . I truly love the shawl you featured today. I have a stockpile of shawls made from PK yarn , I was wondering if you could possibly do a post on how to style ~wrap a shawl like you featured today. I have tried for a long time & just can’t get it. Thanks. Keep warm, safe & well

Thank you for all of your kind compliments! This blog has definitely been a labor of love lol! My husband and I used to live in upstate NY for several years, but we moved back home to Pittsburgh. There are so many beautiful waterfalls, gorges, and lakes up there!!! I loved it!!! I hope you get to enjoy them! In regards to your styling question I sure can work on a video tutorial, but in the meantime if you follow @dimondlaine on IG she has a video saved under her “story highlights” called “Wraps & such” and Sarah shows you how to do it. Sarah taught us a class at one of the pop ups on how to do her “wrap and tuck” method and I’ve been doing it ever since.
